Year of Birth 2003 & 2004
The U16 athletes typically have had a number of years of racing experience and are expert skiers. The U16 program continues to work on technical free skiing with an increased focus on gate training, racing, and video analysis. The U16 athletes will participate in the Vermont Cup race series and the Vermont U16 State Championship. The top performers at the U16 State
Championships will move on to an Eastern Championships. The athletes will also focus on the development of their US Ski & Snowboard ‘point profile’.
Typical equipment needs include: FIS approved GS/SG Helmet (no ‘soft ears’), GS suit, slalom protection gear, a back protector, and properly sized SL, GS and SG skis. Athletes must be members of the Vermont Alpine Racing Association (VARA) as well as US Ski & Snowboard.
Requirements: VARA Membership, US Ski & Snowboard Competition Membership, FIS approved GS Helmet, back protection (highly recommended)
Times: 8:30am to 3pm (Lunch 11:30am to 12:30pm)
The 2018/19 Season is coming to an end. It's been an amazing season and one that had highlights for all athletes. Congrats to everyone in SWSC on all their hard work and dedication!
Don't let all the hard work end in March! Lots of improvements can be made in a short time over the summer and fall. Time on snow matters with athlete development and supplemental skiing and training is a great way to continue the progress made over the winter. A short 2 week Summer training camp can be as much skiing as a month of skiing in the winter and incredibly productive!
U.S. Elite Camps is the preferred summer ski camp for SWSC. SWSC coaches, as well as additional full time coaches work with the athletes in a fun summer environment to offer the additional training needed off season. No racing, no pressure, just athlete skill development. U10's through U19's and Masters can all benefit from addition ski time. U.S. Elite Camps uses only professional, experienced coaches for all camps. There are no kid/athlete 'coaches' at these camps, only Professionals. The camp also brings a house mom/nurse to care for the younger ones and offer 24hr care!!
There are three off season ski training camps offered. Go to the Camp Website for more information on the camps. www.uselitecamps.com

It’s crazy the season is almost over! We set a goal to provide a U16 program that develops a young athlete’s skiing technique, tactical skills and to build on their passion for the sport of ski racing. We are proud of how well our athletes grew this season, come celebrate their successes on Saturday night. In a previous post we had detailed how well our athletes did against their peers. Here is another statistic in just how competitive racing in Vermont is; at the U16 Eastern Championships (12 states) VARA athletes claimed 77 out of 100 awards. Stratton (SMS / SWSC) athletes did great!
