2019-2020 Edition of SWSC Alpine Racing!

2019-2020 Edition of SWSC Alpine Racing!

Hello Athletes and Parents!

I hope you are enjoying this week of Indian Summer.  We had our first frost at Stratton yesterday and the leaves are starting to change – we know what is right around the corner.

Many have heard that David Edry is moving on and I wanted to reassure our whole team that the backbone of our all-star coaching staff is not going anywhere, and further wanted to express my gratitude to them for really stepping up to the plate to make sure this season goes off without a hitch. I could not be more proud to serve as the Alpine Race Director with this amazing staff alongside!

We have a couple of exciting changes to talk about that are really going to enhance our great program. We are always looking at ideas to keep everyone in the loop in a very simple, clean manner. I am excited to announce a new chapter in communication for SWSC. We will be using the "Team App" for ALL program related information this season.  It is ready currently and we will be populating it with our all our race events, training schedules, handbook, membership links and blog info as it becomes available. You can check it out right now!

Let's get started:

  1. Visit the Apple App/Google Play Store to download the "Team App" if you don't already have it installed from another sports team your athlete takes a part in and create an account with Team App and follow the prompts.

  1. Search for our team... "SWSC Alpine ". If you have more than one athlete enrolled across SWSC you can also search for "SWSC Snowboarding" or "SWSC Freestyle/Freeskiing" too.

  1. Request to join the "group" your athlete is enrolled in. Please note if you have a couple of children in different groups, please indicate that when you request to join, and we will take care of it on the back side. (Example: "Hi – I have Chloe in U-8’s and Elizabeth in U-10’s", etc.)

  1. Once your enrollment in the program is confirmed you will be provided access to the App and the appropriate groups. You’ll be able to view all the events and RSVP to our Fall Fitness sessions, etc. (Please allow 1-2 business days) If you are not signed up for the program, please get enrolled by calling 1 800-STRATTON or you may click this link: https://www.stratton.com/plan-your-trip/winter-seasonal-programs/alpine-racing

Other exciting additions that are coming soon are the implementation of our goal setting forms, athlete follow up meetings with coaches to review goals, and more content rich educational programing.

We have a very strong staff line up for the coming season! As always, a few coaches will be leaving to pursue college and other professional opportunities, but 95% of our staff will be returning and we have some very strong candidates who are interested in filling openings. We will be interviewing them in the coming weeks and get them in place. I could not be more proud of the highly qualified, knowledgeable, and caring staff we have to provide a truly World Class program.

Our first Fall Fitness Day is coming up on Sept 28th.  Be sure to sign up for the Team App and request to join "SWSC Alpine" to RSVP to the morning hike and please join us for the afternoon Equipment Fit Session. You must be currently enrolled in SWSC to participate in the morning activities. The summit fitness hike will start at 10:00am on the Junior School patio. The Equipment Fit session will take place from 1:00-3:00pm on the Junior School patio as well.  We also have two other Fall Fitness Days planned this season. Dry land training will take place each morning on 10/12 & 10/26 (time TBD in the Team App Event Calendar) and Summit Fire Tower Hike with gondola download on 10/12 from 1:00-4:00pm, and Stratton Pond Hike on 10/26 from 1:00-4:30pm. You are more than welcome to bring family and friendly pups (on leash in the base area) to our hiking events. Proper hiking footwear and good fitness are a must.

am excited to see everyone again and look forward to an awesome season! If you have any comments, questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.

Best,

Robbin

Thank You SWSC!

Thank You SWSC,

The 2018/19 SWSC season has come to a close and what an amazing last weekend we had! Saturday we were treated with a late season powder day and Sunday we had bluebird skies for the Annual SWSC Club Championship race! Congratulations to Skye Greenberg (U14) and Declan McNamara (U19) on their 2019 Club Champion titles!

The 2018/19 season was an amazing one! The club was the biggest we've ever seen (305 athletes) and SWSC had an amazing group of coaches, crew, parents, and athletes. We hosted 13 races, 2 VARA projects, a massive Skating party, and a huge awards banquet. We added a very successful SWSC Parent Education Series, the U14 Vermont State Championships event, the Eastern Masters Championships, and the very important #Shred4Nate race in memory of Nathan Carreira.

We couldn't have done all of this without a great parent group and lots of parent volunteers! We also couldn't have done all of this without our amazing SWSC coaches, timing crew, and event crew! This is a truly professional and dedicated team that make sure things are perfect everyday for the athletes. I make sure to thank them every day for their commitment and hard work and I hope you're all doing the same!! We are very lucky to have the team we do and their love for SWSC is why the athletes have fun and learn every weekend and why we are so successful.

There's a lot of wrapping up to do over the next few weeks/months and some athletes are still racing. We already are in the planning stages for 2019/20 and the head coaches had a great end of year round table meeting to review and build the new program. We have some great new projects in the works and we are excited to announce them!

There's a lot happening during the off season as well. We have lots of athletes joining the Mt Hood and Saas-Fee training Camps over the summer, as well as athletes already registering for the Fall Copper Thanksgiving Camp in November. Off Season camps are a great way to build skills in a non-competitive environment with professional coaches! All these camps sell out, so let me know if you're interested! More skiing = more progress

We are also working on a new fall conditioning plan that will take place in the NYC region. Our Fall Fitness sessions are great and it's fun to get out and train on Stratton Mountain, but we want to get MORE kids involved! This will be a great way to get the team together and get ready for the winter!

Don't forget to order your team clothing for 2019/20!! The orders are due TODAY March 25! Contact Trisha Kramer with questions. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

It's been an amazing season and I can't thank everyone enough for all your commitment to SWSC!! A BIG "thanks" to Stratton Resort and the Stratton Ski & Board Club for their commitment to SWSC! We couldn't have done it without your support! Please let me know if you're up over the next few weekends, it would be great to see you all!

Thank You for an incredible year SWSC!!

Summer Ski Planning!

SWSC,

The 2018/19 Season is coming to an end. It's been an amazing season and one that had highlights for all athletes. Congrats to everyone in SWSC on all their hard work and dedication!

Don't let all the hard work end in March! Lots of improvements can be made in a short time over the summer and fall. Time on snow matters with athlete development and supplemental skiing and training is a great way to continue the progress made over the winter. A short 2 week Summer training camp can be as much skiing as a month of skiing in the winter and incredibly productive!

U.S. Elite Camps is the preferred summer ski camp for SWSC. SWSC coaches, as well as additional full time coaches work with the athletes in a fun summer environment to offer the additional training needed off season. No racing, no pressure, just athlete skill development. U10's through U19's and Masters can all benefit from addition ski time. U.S. Elite Camps uses only professional, experienced coaches for all camps. There are no kid/athlete 'coaches' at these camps, only Professionals. The camp also brings a house mom/nurse to care for the younger ones and offer 24hr care!!

There are three off season ski training camps offered. Go to the Camp Website for more information on the camps. www.uselitecamps.com

Mt Hood, Oregon. 2 sessions on a summer Glacier!
           June 25-July 5       ~8 Days on snow.   (*U12's thru U19's)
           June 25-July 10    ~12 Days on snow. (*U12's thru U19's)

Saas-Fee, Switzerland.  A European Training Experience
           July 23-Aug 6        ~11 days on snow. (*U14's thru U19's)

Copper Thanksgiving Camp.  A fall Race Prep Camp on the best early season training site in the USA!
           November 24-29   ~6 days on snow.  (*U10's thru U19's). Travel Days: Nov. 23 & 30

Notes:
Copper and Mt Hood have Day camper and Boarding Camper Options.
*Age classes based on 2019/2020 US Ski & Snowboard age classes.

In the works....

Master Copper Training Camp.  A Masters training camp to help jump start the year!
November 11-15**    ~5 days on snow. **Dates are tentative.

There are also additional adventures for those interested.

U.S. Elite Adventures offers two exciting camps for kids AND adults!

Cycle in Riccione Italy! This adult camp is for those parents looking to go and pedal around Italy and enjoy the Adriatic coast line! No experience needed! We supply guides, bikes (if needed), transportation, etc!

Youth Leadership Hiking Camp in Chamonix France! This leadership camp follows a curriculum to help teach leadership skills while hiking in the Alps of France, Switzerland and Italy! An amazing opportunity for kids to learn and adventure!

Get fired up for some great summer skiing and adventures!! Check it out!

Last Weekend

On behalf of the U16 coaching staff, I wanted to thank everyone for your generosity and support. As we reflect on this year’s season, we try to make improvements and adjustments for next year. The dedication and devotion to the athletes by this staff has been nothing less than inspiring. As dedicated as our coaches have been, the kids and parents have been nothing less. Throughout the whole season our athletes have demonstrated their determination to build on their own individual successes. It’s been a great year of growth and lots of fun along the way.

For our last weekend:
Saturday, Mar 23 – SWSC Club Championships GS - GS skis, GS poles, GS helmet, Back Protector
Sunday, Feb 24 – SL skis, shin guards, SL helmet / face bar, pole guards on SL poles or Dual GS - GS skis, GS poles, GS helmet, Back Protector

We will always continue to strive to make things better and your input is an important part of the improvement lifecycle. We appreciate any feedback.

Happy Spring….Thanks to everyone
U16 Coaching Staff
